A memorial service for Erin Walker will be at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 15, at Blaine Memorial United Methodist Church, 3001 24th Ave. S. Seattle. A service of remembrance was conducted Aug. 24 in her childhood home of Moscow, Idaho.
Walker, a faculty academic advisor in the International Education Program at Shoreline Community College, died in an automobile accident, Thursday, July 25, 2013 near Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Walker had received tenure at the college in March, was well-liked and respected and the sudden loss was particularly difficult for many students and coworkers.
“We’re grateful to Erin’s family for this opportunity for her many friends here in the Seattle area to acknowledge and honor the influence she had on so many lives,” Interim President Daryl Campbell said.
In addition to her full-time position at the college, Walker was actively involved with music, directing the Women’s Chorale at the Music Center of the Northwest in Seattle. She was also active in the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church. She served as choir director at summer retreats and on international tours of China and Cuba with an ecumenical choir called Jubilate! She also sang with the Seattle Symphony Chorale.
At the college, plans are being made for a memorial opportunity and a planting as a permanent symbol of Walker’s impact and dedication to her work. There are several opportunities to make donations in Walker’s name, including:
- Shoreline Community College Foundation
- Any U.S. Bank branch to the Erin Walker Memorial Jazz Choir Fund
- A pet rescue organization of one’s choice
Comments in remembrance of Walker may be made at:
- Walker’s guestbook at legacy.com (open through Sept. 2)
- Walker’s guestbook at Shorts Funeral Chapel
God bless all who knew Erin Walker. Best wishes for healing and comfort to you in this time of sorrow.
