Shoreline Community College’s Toyota T-TEN program, in partnership with Toyota Motor Sales, recently donated a 2009 Toyota Matrix to Bellevue High School through a collaboration with Lexus of Bellevue. The Matrix will be put to use in the school’s automotive program, giving students a state-of-the-art hands-on learning tool.
Derrick Albrecht, Service and Parts Director at Lexus of Bellevue, was instrumental in connecting Shoreline with Pete McCue, an instructor at Bellevue High School’s auto program. “It is community partnerships like these that allow us to have such a great impact in the local high schools,” said Michael Boehm, Director of Dealer Services & Manufacturer Relations for Shoreline’s Professional Automotive Training Center – Dealer Academy.
“We’re happy to invest in our area high schools and expose them to career possibilities in the automotive industry,” he added. “This donation helps us do just that while providing a needed training tool to the school.”
The T-TEN program at Shoreline is a two-year cooperative program resulting in an Associate in Applied Arts & Sciences. Students spend alternating quarters in class and working in a sponsoring Toyota or Lexus dealership. T-TEN provides students with the fundamental skills to succeed in the workplace along with valuable hands-on experience.
