Students get torque certifications by Snap-on and NC3

T-TEN students at Shoreline Community College

Think you know how to tighten a bolt? Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey?

Think again.

The National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) program housed in the Snap-On Innovation Center at The Professional Automotive Training Center – Dealer Training Academy at Shoreline Community College one word for you: Torque.

There is a perception that applying torque to a fastener is intuitive, anyone can do it, according to NC3. Perhaps, but the ability to do it properly is what makes the difference. To that end, NC3 and Snap-on have developed certification programs for torque and other skills that are aimed at giving technicians a comprehensive understanding of torque and the ability to properly apply it on the job.

And certification is just what students in the Toyota Technician Training and Education Network (T-TEN) program at Shoreline Community College recently received after completing the two-day training.

“I knew this was a good program and wanted our students to be able to take advantage of it,” said Kevin Roner, T-TEN Coordinator and Instructor at Shoreline. Roner said 13 T-Ten students received four certifications each for a total of 52 certifications earned. “I have to say that I learned a few things, too.”

The students were awarded certifications in these four areas:

  • Hand Tool Safety
  • Torque Theory
  • Torque Wrench
  • Electronic Torque Wrench

The instruction and testing was conducted by Jeff Cromwell, T-TEN Instructor at Shoreline. Cromwell completed a week-long training and certification program this past summer at Snap-on facilities in Kenosha, Wisc., to be able to provide the program at Shoreline.

“This training illustrates our commitment to providing industry-specific, stackable certifications with a national certification body like NC3,” said Michael Boehm, Director of Dealer Services and Manufacturer Relations at Shoreline.
