After months of preparation, Shoreline Community College’s DECA team earned 2nd Place Overall at the 2019 Collegiate DECA Washington state competition held at Seattle University Sat., March 2. Eighteen Shoreline DECA students competed in business events such as Emerging Technologies, Marketing Management, Event Planning, Advertising, and Accounting.
“I’m very proud of our team,” said Kyle Winslow, DECA faculty advisor. “Shoreline was the only community college represented at the conference and our students more than held their own against competitors from four-year schools.” Universities represented at the tournament included Bellevue College, Seattle University, University of Washington, Western Washington University, and Washington State University in Pullman.
Sixteen Shoreline DECA students earned the opportunity to compete at the International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida April 13-16.

Jared Sanagustin – 3rd Place in Advertising
Maghara Adipura – 3rd Place in Emerging Technologies
Shangqin Ni – 3rd Place in Restaurant Management
Shoreline Community College as a team also placed second in the Finance, Marketing, and Business Category Awards. Final counts were based on combined scores for each of the teams with students in these event areas.
