Greg Stone(Shoreline Community College, 1986-88) has starred as an actor and singer on Broadway, in National Tours (including as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables), and locally at theater companies such as the 5th Avenue Theatre and Village Theatre. He’s performed at New York’s Carnegie Hall, London’s Royal Albert Hall, and at venues in nearly every U.S. major city.
Greg grew up in Shoreline, living just a few blocks from the Crest Movie Theater. He attended Ridgecrest Elementary and went on to study at Shoreline Community College. While at Shoreline, Stone studied theatre with Professors Maurie Hendrickson and Willy Clark.
“I loved my time at Shoreline Community College!” said Stone. “It was a big step towards my life in the arts. Shoreline is where I learned stagecraft: blocking, sight lines, how to play to and with the audience. Shoreline was a great place to try things out, make mistakes, and make friends.”
After hearing Greg sing a Frank Sinatra song during an improvisation class, Shoreline’s Chamber Choir Conductor, Bob Metzger, recruited him to join his ensemble.
“I joined choir and was given voice lessons from Susan Dolacky, under scholarship. That was huge for my career! It gave me the foundation for proper singing that helped me throughout my time on stage.”
Once the choir had the privilege of performing for an audience which included former President Jimmy Carter, during which the choir was instructed to wear tuxedoes. When Greg shook the hand of the former President, Carter leaned toward him and joked, “I feel underdressed.”
“Don’t worry, Mr. President,” Stone responded. “I think you’ll be fine.”
