The trustees unanimously approved both the 2014-15 General Fund Operating budget and Student Services and Activities (SSA&A) budget. The General Fund Operating budget is currently 44 percent funded by state dollars, making tuition, grants and contracts increasingly important.

The Strategic Action Plan (SAP) has been vital in budget planning for the next fiscal year. The emphasis will include student retention, including a new Director of Advising, streamlining financial aid, enhancing programs for veterans.

As part of the budget approval, there will be an increase in student parking fees beginning this fall to $45 a quarter.

The Board of Trustees also approved a contract extension for Interim President Daryl Campbell through Aug. 17. Incoming President Cheryl Roberts will begin her post on Aug. 18.

Also to start on Aug. 18, Campbell has the opportunity to stay on in a new role as Executive Vice President. He would oversee endeavors including housing, student recruitment in China and Cambodia and the automotive center.

“Interim President Campbell has done a marvelous job leading the college during this past year,” said Roberts, who was reached following the meeting. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to have the benefit of his experience as we move forward through this transition.”

At the meeting, it was announced that Michael Boehm has been selected as Director of Dealer Services and Manufacturer Relations for automotive. This new position will work directly with college automotive-industry partners.

Tony Costa, retiring tutoring director, was presented with a veteran’s coin by several students. Costa, a Navy veteran, was commended for his service both at Shoreline and the military.

Outgoing Student Body Association President Nick Begley was presented a plaque to honor his service to students.

In other business, the board members delayed a vote on selecting a chair for the coming year.

This story was updated June 26 to include the response from incoming President Cheryl Roberts.
